Grand Rounds, Academic Interim Period

Haven't been posting as much here, mostly related to the time of the academic year / timing of lectures and working on grand rounds. I have been putting interesting articles on the Padlet link. I should probably post a few things about upcoming ANPA deadlines and events.

A Time For Advocacy

A brief check-in - as I say ad nauseum, this site is most of boring education updates, but this is a time of significant concerns - CDC issues, anti-trans / anti-vaccine / anti-psychiatry rhetoric. Please stay involved, informed, and do adequate self-care during this times.

Upcoming Catatonia SIG Journal Club

The Catatonia SIG is meeting soon - and plan to discuss this article and it's interesting points / limitations: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38924566/ I may be biased, but I highly recommend being both a member of ANPA and a member of the Catatonia SIG, so that you can join us to discuss such things and work on projects such as https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40223425/ ANPA SIG Information: https://anpaonline.org/special-interest-groups/special-interest-groups

Four Great Viewpoints in One JAMA

From the June 24, 2025 edition, four great viewpoints in a row: The FDA's Crisis Is Everyone's Crisis The Role of Affirming Language Heath and Human Services Restructuring - Threats to the US Preventive Services Task Force & Health Psychiatry and the Make America Healthy Again Commission Just like how I don't usually do "book reviews," I don't necessarily always promote editorials or articles - but having four in a row like this caught my eye.

New Academic Year, New Academic Post

Hello all, It's a new academic year? I'm mostly typing this to keep the blog active, though I don't have much to say. Working on a couple of talks and considering some curriculum changes. For the residents (which should be the biggest percentage of people reading this) - remember to check the Dropbox. I'm also now at the Associate Professor level, which doesn't really change much but seems like an accomplishment. Seems like the most appropriate thing to do is post my book (though these are only the ones in my work office): https://bsky.app/profile/psychialove.com/post/3lt66cvo6ms2j I have some thoughts on the…

Military Appreciation Month, Books?

I wanted to start this entry a bit ago, but I dragged my feet due to not being sure how to do it - mostly because I've avoiding doing book reviews or recommendations except in specific cases -  but decided that I would be best to just do a normal post that I can update later. I also wanted to do this at the end of May for Military Appreciation Month, but by the time I got to it that was over. I've had a couple of recent incidents of trainees not being as aware of military and veteran culture,…

PGY-2s: Brain & Behavior Book

This entry is mostly just a placeholder / reminder to the residents that the following book is highly recommended for "Brain and Behavior" - ideally earlier in training. https://shop.lww.com/The-Neuroscience-of-Clinical-Psychiatry/p/9781975212223

Lectures Coming Up, Recent Updates

I'm still trying to figure out how to use the combination of the blog, Padlet, and Bluesky - considering that this is mostly for trainees and colleagues, and that I don't have much time to do much else with it, I'm not sure what is best? The website / blog is the "anchor" but the Padlet is more casual and requires less time to post interesting things (as long as I remember to do so?) Anyway, as a placeholder in the likely case that I forget to post again before the beginning of PGY-2 lectures: (1) For trainees and some…

ANPA 2025 + Looking Forward

ANPA 2025 is over - just got home so still transitioning back to "real life," but the conference was great and Montreal was great. Good topics, great people at ANPA, and Montreal itself was great in terms of people, food, music, and general vibes. I'm posting a few things on the Padlet about some neuromodulation stuff and maybe some other things. Looking forward - hopefully will be motivated and able to work on grand rounds, also upcoming PGY-2 and then PGY-4 lectures, and otherwise working through / advocating during these weird political times.
